One hundred hardcovers. One hundred cards. One image. One document that exists nowhere else. When the hundredth name is entered, it completes.

In the novel, a registry decides who matters. People are serialised, tagged and watched, and none of them agreed to it — that is most of the horror of the book. The Founding Registry is that record with the polarity reversed. Nobody is entered without asking. You put your own name in, by hand, and what you are entered into is kept by a person rather than by a Prophet.

The card

Sealed in an opaque sleeve inside the book. One art tile on the front. Your serial, one line of in-world text, and a concealed panel on the back. Inert until you register it.

Your name in the registry

Not a receipt. A named line in a record I keep: name, serial, tile, fragment. It does not expire and it is not for sale.

One tile of the mosaic

A hundred tiles, sealed. Each lights when its holder registers. The image only resolves as the names arrive.

One hundredth of a document

Read in serial order, the backs of the hundred cards reconstruct a text that appears nowhere in the novel. It completes at 100 of 100. Not before.
